This wood includes various species of Khaya, with weights ranging between 33 lb/ft³ to 50 lb/ft³. The most prized variety, Khaya Ivorensis, is valued for its stability and excellent working properties. The heartwood initially appears distinctly pink when freshly cut, evolving to colors from light pinkish-brown to a rich, deep reddish tone as it seasons. The sapwood, which is yellowish-brown, may not be clearly separated from the heartwood. Featuring interlocking grain and a coarse texture, this wood benefits from a reduced cutting angle of 15 degrees to minimize surface pick-up during machining.
